Modelo Prime

Solid composite decking,
made to be lived on.

A dense wood-fibre and HDPE board with a brushed timber grain, concealed clip fixing and a 25-year limited warranty. Seven colours, one profile: 140 × 23 mm in 5.4 m lengths.

The board

One solid board, built for Australian outdoors

Modelo Prime is a solid, full-profile composite decking board — no hollow core to trap water or crush at the edges. It is made from reclaimed timber fibre bound in high-density polyethylene, with UV stabilisers, colourants and anti-mould agents. The surface is brushed to a fine timber grain that stays comfortable underfoot and never needs oiling, painting or sealing.

Installation

Installs like timber, only faster

Modelo Prime goes down with standard tools — a drop saw or circular saw with a carbide blade, a drill and a driver. There is no pre-drilling, countersinking or plugging: the clips fix the boards and set the gap for you. The essentials are below; ask us for the full installation guide before you start.

01

Build a sound subframe

Treated pine (H3 minimum, H4 in ground contact), hardwood or steel joists at 450 mm centres — 400 mm for stairs, landings and commercial decks — level, square and well fixed. Composite boards are not structural: never use them as joists or bearers.

02

Keep it dry underneath

Allow at least 40 mm between the ground and the underside of the boards where water drains freely, and 90 mm where it does not. Leave the perimeter open or vented so air can move under the deck.

03

Start straight

Fix the first board square to the joists with starter clips, or face-fix it along the edge that the fascia will cover. Every board that follows locks to it, so take the time to get this one right.

04

Clip and go

Slide a clip into the groove at every joist, drive the screw, then push the next board home against it. The clip spaces the boards automatically. On steel joists use the steel kit with self-drilling screws.

05

Leave room to move

Composite expands and contracts with temperature. Leave a 6 mm gap at butt joints and wherever a board meets a wall, post or fascia. Every board end must sit on a joist or noggin.

06

Finish the edges

Picture-frame the perimeter or fit a fascia board, face-fixed with two coloured composite screws per joist, pre-drilled. Cut ends are best hidden behind the fascia or frame for a clean finish.

Like all decking, darker colours run warmer in full sun. For pool surrounds and unshaded north-facing decks, the lighter shades — Coral, Blackbutt, Antique — stay the most comfortable underfoot.

Care & maintenance

A wash twice a year is all it takes

Modelo Prime never needs oiling, painting or sealing. Treat it like an indoor floor that lives outside: sweep it, wash it now and then, and deal with spills while they are fresh.

1. Wet

Hose the deck down to loosen dust, pollen and leaves.

2. Wash

Warm water with a squirt of dishwashing liquid and a soft-bristle brush, working along the grain.

3. Rinse

Rinse with the hose. A squeegee pushes the dirty water off the boards.

4. Dry

Let it dry. No sealing, no oiling — you are done.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

It runs slightly warmer than timber, and darker colours absorb more heat. For pool surrounds and north-facing decks in full sun, choose a lighter colour such as Coral, Blackbutt or Antique, and plan some shade.

The boards are UV-stabilised. Expect a slight softening of tone over the first months as the surface weathers, after which the colour is stable. This natural weathering is not a defect.

No, and you should not: coatings will not bond properly to the board, and painting, staining or oiling voids the warranty. A wash with warm soapy water is all the maintenance it needs.

We recommend a garden hose and a soft brush. High-pressure washing can mark the surface. If you do use one, keep the pressure low, use a fan nozzle, hold it well away from the boards and keep it moving.

450 mm centres for residential decks; 400 mm for stairs, landings and commercial or heavy-traffic areas. Every board end must sit on a joist or noggin.

Yes. Use the clip kit for steel joists with self-drilling screws; tell us when you order and we will supply the right one.

Not directly: the boards need air underneath. Allow at least 40 mm clearance where water drains freely and 90 mm where it does not. Over concrete or a membrane, use a low-profile subframe or pedestals with a fall for drainage.

Yes. Reduce joist spacing to 400 mm on stairs and landings and support all board ends. Around pools the brushed surface gives good grip when kept clean; sweep off algae and leaves, and pick a lighter colour for comfort underfoot in full sun.
